I’ve stated before that many in the NFL believe Dez Bryant, recently released by Dallas, is done as a top receiver. They believe he is now a possession receiver. They say barely.
I’ll also state this again: I see Bryant still having a lot left. At least several years.
One of the reasons why is his motivation. Bryant has told both former teammates and other players around the league he will get revenge on the Cowboys. That is the word Bryant is using: revenge.
Nic Shimonek took over at quarterback for Texas Tech after the Patrick Mahomes era ended. His brief time under center in a conference not known for defense prompted both the good and bad kind of eyebrow raise.
He showed solid enough accuracy in 2017, finishing with a completion percentage of 66.5 to go with an average of 8.0 yards per attempt. His ability to move the offense also led to 33 touchdown passes during his final collegiate season.
That production alone is enough to earn him the sleeper label in a draft with question marks everywhere at quarterback.
However, Shimonek’s ball placement was poor at times, which led to 10 interceptions in 2017. Combine that with his lack of experience in a pro-style offense, and it’s likely he’ll be available in the later rounds.
Hurst has been medically cleared to play football after an irregular EKG prevented him from participating in the NFL combine and has been projected as a first- or an early second-round selection by NFL Draft analysts. Hurst, voted the Wolverines’ MVP and top defensive lineman last season, hasn’t discussed specifics about his medical issue, but he did undergo testing at Michigan and Harvard in the two weeks following the combine. He participated in Pro Day at Michigan.
I have a list of guys that are kind of like sneaky guys that have kind of fallen through the cracks, Herbstreit, who will make his NFL Draft debut April 26 on ESPN’s main set for Round 1, said Tuesday during a conference call. You know how the draft buildup people find anything or everything and in this case, he had the issue with his heart at the combine.
Herbstreit believes analysts may be sleeping on Hurst because he didn’t participate at the combine for medical reasons.
